This little typical Alentejo house is situated in the middle of the Nature Park Serra de São Mamede. Although it is nicely isolated from roads and towns, it is very close to Santo António das Areias (a walking path starts close to the house to walk there and is 1.6 km to get into the center of the village). Here you will find some bars, a restaurant, mini mercado, pharmacy, health center and covered swimming pool. Villages close by are Marvão (+/- 8.5 km), Castelo de Vide (+/- 12 km) and the capital of the district Portalegre (+/- 25 km). Bonus is the proximity to Spain (until border +/- 12.5 km), where you can visit the morning market in Valencia de Alcántara (+/- 25 km) or a beautiful place like Cáceres (+/- 115 km and listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site) and much more.
The property is divided in 3 parts: two parcels of land and one with the house with a front terrace and garden. In between is a public path that leads to neighbours further up and a hardly used rocky walking path up into the beautiful surroundings of the park. The two pieces of land are completely different from each other.
First there is the lower green part (??? m2) separated by a gate where a small stream (dry in summer) flows through and has a water tank that is full year-round. Here are some fruit, olive trees and (cork) oak trees. It is possible to make a vegetable garden (plenty of water year round) and some nice spots to sit during the hottest days of the year.
The second part (??? m2) is a little bit higher up, This rocky plateau with, typical for this area, cork and stone oak trees gives spectacular views of the surroundings all the way to the hillside village and castle of Marvão. When there is a lot of grass the neighbours goats / sheep keep this part clean and it has a small old fashioned stone shed where the neighbor keeps the straw for the animals for now. Of course it is up to the new owner if they want to maintain the animals certain times of year, but it does keep the land clean and safe from fires. Here is all the space you need to be outside.
The house was in very bad shape and the current owner has started to remodel but unfortunately had to stop because of health problems. This is why it is a combination of completed work with work to be done. It has a small simply made bathroom downstairs that is one of the entrances into the house. Via this bathroom you step into a small living room with one small window that connects to the kitchen that has a huge Alentejo chimney in it. In the kitchen starts the newly made stairs leading to 2 (bed) rooms with wooden floors. Also in the kitchen is the main entrance that goes to a small terrace leading to a small outhouse. There is a connection for a gas bottle that has a little shelter outside the kitchen wall.
All the inside walls are redone, plastered and with electrical connections. The ceiling downstairs also is completely renewed with new wooden beams and boards. The old stones are saved and cleaned and it gives some great authentic storage shelves. The roof is not insulated, so this will be a big part of the work still to be done.
